Fiber Optic Availability
Access to reliable, high-speed internet is no longer a luxury for rural communities; it is an essential service that fuels education, economic growth, healthcare access, and social connectivity. For the rural communities that La Jicarita Rural Telephone Cooperative serves, fiber optic technology represents a transformative leap forward. Unlike traditional copper or satellite connections, fiber optic internet delivers unmatched speeds and reliability, ensuring residents and businesses in these areas can participate fully in the modern digital economy. From enabling remote learning and telehealth services to supporting local entrepreneurs and agricultural innovations, high-speed fiber empowers rural communities to thrive in ways that were once unimaginable.
La Jicarita’s achievement of building out over 90% of its service area with fiber optic infrastructure is a testament to its commitment to bridging the digital divide. This milestone ensures that nearly all residents within the cooperative’s region have access to world-class internet speeds comparable to urban centers. By prioritizing connectivity for its underserved and geographically challenging areas, La Jicarita is not just providing a service—it is building a foundation for future generations to stay connected, competitive, and resilient in an increasingly digital world. As the final push toward universal coverage continues, the cooperative underscores the importance of equitable access to technology as a cornerstone for community development and opportunity.
The New Mexico Fiber Network (NMFN) is a collaborative initiative among rural telecommunications providers aimed at expanding high-speed fiber-optic connectivity across the state. By leveraging shared infrastructure, NMFN enhances broadband access, reliability, and capacity, particularly in underserved rural areas.
For La Jicarita’s community, this network has the potential to provide residents and businesses access to faster, more stable internet, supporting everything from remote work and education to telehealth and economic development. By being part of NMFN, La Jicarita strengthens its ability to deliver affordable, high-quality broadband, fostering growth and connectivity for the region.
